Gemotions

The monotonous beep of the computer screen was the only sound in the office. He sat slumped in his chair, the glow reflecting in his tired eyes. The spreadsheets blurred before him, the numbers swimming in his vision. He just wanted to shut the world out.

"The ski trip… Remember?" Chloe's voice cut through the fog in his mind. She was in good spirits, as always. "We had the best time, right? The snow, the hot chocolate…”

He stared blankly at her. "Ski trip? We went to the beach. Remember the sandcastles and the sunburn?" His muscles ached, his head throbbed.

Chloe looked surprised. “Beach? No, we spent the whole weekend on the slopes. Remember the falls we took? We were freezing. But it was fun." She was beginning to question him.

He felt the despair beginning to set in. The beach, the sun, the warmth… it was all he could see. "I…" he said, his voice trailing off, the weight of the day crushing him. He just wanted to be alone.
